Legal Assistant
Speedwell Law, PLLC, a boutique trusts and estates law firm in Alexandria, Virginia, is seeking a professional, detail-oriented Legal Assistant to join our team. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys organization, client service, technology, and supporting meaningful legal work in a warm, collegial office environment.
We provide sophisticated estate planning and estate administration services with a boutique feel and a seamless client experience. We are also an AI-first law firm, meaning we actively use technology, systems, and AI tools to improve the quality, speed, and effectiveness of our work.
The Legal Assistant will support 3–4 attorneys and help ensure that our office runs smoothly, efficiently, and with care. This is a full-time, onsite position in our Class A offices in Alexandria, Virginia. Garage parking is provided, and the role reports directly to the Office Manager.
The position begins at $25/hour. After a successful three-month introductory period, it is expected to transition to a full-time salaried position.
About the Role
This position focuses on general office administration and legal support, including managing client files, processing mail, supporting estate planning document signings, and assisting attorneys with estate administration matters.
This is a great fit for someone who is organized, dependable, friendly, detail-oriented, and comfortable using technology to work accurately and efficiently.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include:
- Scanning, saving, and organizing documents
- Creating, maintaining, and updating electronic and physical client files
- Processing incoming and outgoing mail
- Preparing legal documents, forms, correspondence, and related materials
- Reviewing documents for typographical errors, formatting issues, and completeness
- Supporting estate planning signing appointments and coordinating witness signatures
- Assisting with estate administration tasks as directed by attorneys
- Occasionally traveling to court to file pleadings or other documents
- Providing general administrative support to attorneys and the Office Manager
- Helping maintain a smooth, professional, and welcoming office environment
- Using technology, systems, and AI tools responsibly to improve organization, accuracy, and efficiency
Qualifications
Strong candidates will have:
- An Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree
- Prior administrative assistant experience, preferably in a professional services environment
- A pleasant, professional, and client-friendly demeanor
- Excellent attention to detail and follow-through
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Responsiveness, diligence, and reliability
- Comfort working with confidential information
- Proficiency with Microsoft Windows programs, especially Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat
- Curiosity and confidence using technology to solve problems and improve workflows
